Like a siesta for your insides (with no kids or whatsapp interruptions…AT ALL).
Your intestines are your second brain (if you didn’t know) that also
need a break! By letting your body rest (however much) from constant
digestion you allow it to focus its attention on other areas that may be
in need of some TLC (and who doesn’t need a little of that?).
Detoxes re-energize you without you having to double fist espresso!
Oh….and you won’t need that afternoon sugar fix either!
Detoxes are good for EVERYONE because they teach you about habits.
Thought you only opened the fridge 5 times a day? Think again….it’s probably more like 25!
Cleansing is less about losing weight and more about getting rid of cravings and becoming more aware of your eating habits.

Do I really need a detox? Can’t I just drink less wine and get the same results?
Um yes and no. Yes, you do really need a detox and no, you can’t just drink less wine and get the same results (although if that really worked it would be awesome).
If you can identify with any of these statements, you definitely can use with a good detoxing:
- “I sometimes scarf down my food in under 10 minutes because I just don’t have time to dedicate to lunch”
- “Exercise for me is if and when I can but isn’t always consistent”
- “I wish I had more time for myself!”
- “I don’t always buy organic”
- “I use commercial cleaning products in my house”
- “With work/kids/husband/dog/pet turtle (you fill in the blank) I just don’t have time for myself”
- “I eat what’s easy and convenient”
- “I have the deep down gut feeling that what I am eating isn’t really the
best for me”
- “Huh, what are toxins?”
Here are just some of the MANY proven benefits of detoxing:
- Increased energy and strength
- Assists with weight loss
- Restores alkaline balance
- Stabilizes blood sugar
- Rests gastrointestinal system
- Strengthens immune system
- Helps prevent disease
- Tightens skin
- Lowers blood pressure
- Lowers cholesterol
What are toxins anyway?
We all have toxins in our body. Our bodies produce toxins while carrying out their everyday processes (i.e. Carbon dioxide from the lungs, sweat from the skin, urine from the kidneys, etc.). Toxins are unavoidable. The problem is that toxins can also come from our environment (man-made sources). Examples of these toxins are pesticides in our food, chemicals in our water, prescription drugs, contaminated air, etc.
These toxins cause what we call free radicals to be on the loose in the body (kinda like a bull in a China shop – no fun). They bind with immune system pathways which can reduce immune function. Toxins in our environment are everywhere. We ingest them, we breathe them in, we use them on our bodies, and we clean our homes with them.
It is almost impossible to avoid these toxins. Our bodies do an amazing job of cleaning up house with all that they have coming in but there is a point where we can help give a little jump start to things and get our bodies a little more squeaky clean inside.
That spray starch you use to get those shirts to stand up on their own. Toxic!
That furniture polish that makes your grandmother’s 200 year old table look like new. You guessed it, toxic!
That oh so “healthy” sugar without calories. You better believe it… TOXIC!
But surely that new blue and white plastic ball your sister just gave your one year old is ok, right?. Nope! That, too, is toxic!
SO… we live in a toxic world but we can help by doing a detox a few times
The 2 phases of detoxification
There are 2 main phases of detoxing. Both are extremely important, but the second phase is absolutely crucial. Without the proper nutrition, the body is unable to complete the binding process (ohh la la) and therefore the toxins could be reabsorbed into the body (which I guess you don’t need me to tell you is a very big no no).
Phase I: The body identifies toxins and transforms them into unstable molecules, or free radicals, to be excreted.
Phase II: These free radicals are bound up with specific dietary nutrients to render them water soluble so that they can be eliminated from the body via the urinary or digestive tract. In order for this phase to work properly, the body must have access to optimal and adequate nutrition in order for the binding process to be executed properly.
